impending daydreams

there are certain ideas we find ourselves returning to again and again. they come out in fits and starts. a sketch here, two weeks’ obsession there. but over time they can build on themselves, if properly done. over the years they twist and interconnect. one’s starting point becomes another’s implementation. trends emerge when work can be viewed from a distance, after some time. we may return to some old ideas and renew them again, or they may be forgotten as anything more that some pleasant learning.

here’s what we’ll be working to add to the site in coming days:

  • we have an immense back catalog of pico-8 sketches from about four years of prolific creation. many of these experiments fed into larger ideas, and helped us learn how to deliver long imagined concepts in a repeatable way. we wished for small environmental sims to build simulations in deep time and mostly worked on sketches toward that goal.
  • one ancient preoccupation is making mystlike pre-rendered style 3D point-and-click adventure puzzle game. we make worlds in that tradition, surreal terrains and uncanny environments. over time we’re building a catalog of reusable assets for easy use in future toolchains. the cinema-4d and gaea categories will have most of these daydreams.
  • space. always we return to space. what will this be? we have ships large and small, mostly simple cargo vessels and asteroid hoppers. we imagine they are out there trading between stars, scouting the most efficient ways to skip against planets. cinema-4d and pico-8 will have most of these ideas for now but we found some relevant dusty old javascript that still runs in a browser today and may return.
  • the dawg. you may not meet him for a while but he looms large. he pops up in the most unlikely place. often in the retinue but rarely the star, many projects begin in dawg and grow beyond. we hope to introduce you soon.
  • and many more. there are mechs and submarines in some stories, ruined portals to other worlds where the rocks speak and unknowable beings conspire across galaxies. maybe they will all remain daydreams, maybe we’ll get to see them together.
